    LOVE A PENN REEL ! !

I have 10 (Ten) “Penn Spinfisher Live Liner Spinning Reels” 2 – 2500’s, 6 – 4500’s, and 2 – 6500’s. I love the live liner feature the best. It doesn’t matter what type fishing you do you can always use the live liner. You can set the drag as light or as heavy as you need. The best of all is if you set your pole down, you can set the live liner and if a fish hits or you hit a snag on bottom you won’t lose your pole overboard. I have not had any problems with these reels. If you take care of your reels, they will take care of you.

Penn Spinfisher VII Live Liner issues

I did a lot of research on these reels and decided to take a chance and buy 4 of the 4500 size reels as Penn was in my mind the pinnacle of reel manufacturers. I bought them from Cabelas. I opened the first reel box, took it out and started testing the live liner lever. It would not return to its original position and the reel was clicking trying to reel with the handle to kick out the live liner lever. It was like a spring was not strong enough or it was busted and not allowing the LL lever to return to its original position. Then i opened reel number 2 box and this one did not have any issues that i could see. I started loading the reel with Power Pro 20lb braid and noticed it was loading mostly towards the back of the spool nearest the LL lever. It was tapered so hard that the line looked like a triangle on the spool, not perpendicular to the spool at all. I replaced the washer under the spool as explained in the instruction manual and then the line was going on somewhat straight, but then i lost my drag clicking sound. So, when i would try to pull out some line, the drag would not click as usual and was just silent. Then i had reel number 3 act the same way. There seems to be some very big quality control issues at Penn and i am sorry to say that i will no longer be purchasing any of your products in the future because of this bad experience. It sucks that a $219+ reel made by one of the biggest brands out can be so horrible. I really wanted these reels to work and i am…
