    Very Happy

    I am a huge fan of the Penn Slammer series reels but had to try an Authority to see how it stacks up. I bought the 4500 size amd spooled it with 30lb braid to use for inshore species here in New England. The reel is very smooth. Drag is even and consistent. Construction is solid and impressive. Caught some really big bass last year and it performed flawlessly every single timw.

    When i first received the reel i was a bit worried about the smoothness i suppose since it was brand new, but now that it’s broken in, it is right up with there with all the other high end reels. The internals are smooth as butter after a few outings and the drag hits way above its price bracket. It’s a bit of a heavyweight, but for my purposes i actually prefer that. I have it mounted on a Carnage III jigging rod rated for 200lb braid currently spooled with 150lb. This rod and reel combo is no joke. I have yet to hook a fish that could take a significant amount of line. Tuna are no problem at all, in fact i would go as far as to say it may be a bit overkill haha. The build quality of these higher end Penn products are impeccable and this is now my go to setup for any big game jigging. I might just have to get another smaller authority for my other spinning setups too. It has quickly become my absolute favorite reel and for the price, it’s kind of a bargain. It feels like it will last a lifetime. I HIGHLY recommend the Authority, and with this being my 3rd Carnage III rod (i have a boat rod and 12ft surf rod also) i can absolutely recommend any of the rods in the Carnage lineup. Overall summary: if you’re considering the Authority reel, skip the slammer and go for this. It feels like it’s in a different class altogether. I would say it’s so nice i’m hesitant to bring it surf fishing, although i can say it’s qualified for the job with the sealed gearbox and everything. Way to…
