I think its bridge sleeve is defective. I bought this wheel in February this year. Since it's made in the USA I never doubted anything could go wrong with such a simple construction. I used it for trolling and it didn't fight any big fish. About 4-5 trips until today its bridge sleeve locked itself.

I own three of these reels and love them! Otherwise, why would I buy three? I upgraded these reels for large groupers and sharks with heavy-duty bridges and ceramic bearings. Now the stock reels for ordinary-size fishing work just fine. It's the real "Bad Boys" that one runs into [once in a while] that place extraordinary stress on the reel. Yes, I understand this would place a [small?] price increase on the reel. Perhaps create a new model called the "Bad Boy Special Senator 1 ?" Just a thought...Hoping I gave you boys and girls at Penn a good laugh! Always wish you well!

The reel made an awful knocking noise when the line was tight. I bought 2 and both of them did this. Sent them back.
