The PENN® Warfare Star Drag Level Wind Conventional Reel was engineered to be an extremely versatile all- around reel at an affordable price. It features a lightweight graphite frame and sideplates with aluminum frame rings for improved rigidity to prevent frame-flex.  HT-100 drag washers provide smooth drag under heavy loads. Line Capacity Rings eliminate the question of how much line you have left when fighting a fish.

    I’m regretting my purchases

Bought two Penn warfares. Don’t use for about 1 year, sat on a shelf.

Began using recently in Mexico on a sailing trip and my fishing adventure turned into a non fishing adventure.

Because the drag not working properly it caused multiple problems with my line and lost every lure as a result.

I have spent more time trying to repair and figure out the problem(s) than fishing.

I’ve lost so much money on this trip because Penn failed me.

    No a happy customer.

    Drag issues

I bought this real brand new years ago and since day one, it has had consistent drag issues, it’s either too hard or too soft and the adjustment on the star spinner is less than half a return from either way. My opinion??? stay away and get something different.

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re truly sorry to hear about the issue with the drag clicker on your product. We understand how frustrating it can be when a part wears out so quickly, especially after only six months of use.

This is not the quality experience we aim to provide, and we’d like to make it right. If you’d be willing to give us another chance, please contact our customer service team directly at support@pennfishing.com, and we’ll work with you to resolve the issue, whether through a repair or another solution.

We value your feedback and would appreciate the opportunity to regain your trust.

    Nice Reel for the Money

I'm a life-long Penn fan and still use my 1970s-era Penn Squdders all the time. I recently moved to the West Coast where bottom fishing occurs in deep water certain months of the season. Squidders only have a 3 to 1 retrieve ratio, so I began looking for a conventional style reel with a faster retrieve rate and came across the Penn Warfare Level Line 20LW with a 5 to 1 retrieve rate. Had it out on my first trip this weekend and I was impressed with its performance. It holds about 500 ft of 30 pound mono, and has a smooth action. I like that when you crank the handle the reel automatically shifts back into gear. The Level Wind feature disengages when in free spool, so this reel is a decent underhand caster when used on a party boat.
