Love the reel
I purchased this combo for Christmas as it was an excellent deal for the reel on its own. I already owned 3 Battle II's which have performed really well for me. I put the 5000 series reel on a 10' surf rod and on our second trip, my son landed a 28 # striper to christen the reel. I was able to cast very far and the bass put up a hell of a fight, frequently taking drag. I would definitely recommend the combo and I look forward to using the rod in the surf this spring.

Great little rod for redfish, flounder, and speckled trout!
I have 3 of the 6'6" light rods with 1000 reels. All are spooled with 6lb mono. Great flexibility and feel for flats fishing. I boated a 25lb (plus or likely minus) this past May in PSJ, FL. I use a 30 lb fluorocarbon leader.
I like these so much I just bought 2 more, a 2000 and 2500 size model combo on a black Friday deal.
