Product Reviews

PENN Spinfisher® V Live Liner Spinning is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 91.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smooth and durable I bought my first SSV4500 about 2 years ago and have been fishing it hard ever since. In fact, I even bought a second SSV4500 and a SSV6500 to add to the arsenal. These reels perform like new time after time. Whether i'm freelining for Yellowtail Snapper, jigging for Blackfin Tuna, or fishing Snook and Tarpon under the bridge, I always know I can count on this reel to perform. It's super durable and sealed to prevent salt water intrusion. The reel spins smoothly every time I use it and never hesitates. The robust drag capacity comes in handy when pulling big fish out of structure. If you are looking for a versatile, quality spinning reel I highly recommend the Spinfisher V.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Penn Fan For 33 Years Spinfisher V Is Outstanding Currently residing in Wilmington, NC as primary caregiver to my 84 year old Dad. Dad sleeps till about noon most days and this affords me the opportunity to explore the nearby marsh and creeks from Wrightsville Beach to Topsail Island chasing redfish, speckled trout and flounder. I was using 90's vintage 716Z and 720Z spinning reels I bought in LA and were fine for Specs and Flounder but I needed more muscle for redfish. The Spinfisher V 3500 was my selection to do battle with local reds. From a boat or wading the surf these reels are awesome. So much so, I bought a second. Solid metal housing, smooth drag, SHIELDED bearings, a must for surf fishing...for just a bit over $100 (on sale) you won't find a better reel. My Penns: Spinfisher 757 80's vintage for Pacific bass, barracuda and bonita Jigmaster 500 90's vintage for yellowtail and albacore and now amberjacks. 716Z & 720Z originally purchased for largemouth bass and trout. 2 Battle 3000's the original purchased as combos for $80! A steal! 2 Spinfisher V 3500's tame the wildest reds. This year I'm looking at The Squall 25N for chasing King Mackerel. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great surf reel! I bought the SSV 6500 LL for my Mojo 10'6" 3/4-4oz rod for surf fishing. I spooled it with 30lb fins wind tamer braid and it casts like a king. The drag on the reel is super smooth and has the power to land bruisers. I love that the reel has seals to help keep water out. I've lost countless reels to the salt and I feel confident that the Penn will last for years to come. The LL feature is great for soaking bait. I've never had the bail trip when casting plugs either so I haven't cast any expensive plugs to the horizon. My only complaint is the weight of the reel, but you can't get any other all metal reel with this capacity and drag any lighter, especially considering the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough ,Dependable, Reliable Reel for the Money! I purchased my Penn Battle for inshore saltwater fishing targeting Redfish, Trout, and Snook. The Reel handled all three of this Inshore Slam with no issues. I' m proud to own Penn Reels because of their proven reliable and rugged reputation as witnessed by my over 50 years of fishing pleasure and experience. That's why I have a singular reply to all my fishing friends, both young amateurs and veterans like me---When you want to win Fishing any water-Buy a Penn !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good reel, smooth, tough, drag is great. This was my first quality reel, I was use to cheap plastic reels until I found this reel. I spooled the 4500 reel with 200 yards of 30# braid, it can handle freshwater salmon and skamania plus large catfish and sheepshead. This reel has been used in saltwater but the largest thing caught was a 5 pound catfish. The reel did start running a little rough after the first trip but after tearing it down and adding grease and oil it ran like it was brand new. The only problem was after a while the finish started to wear off. I don't mind because I need my reels to work, not to look pretty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Something Different in a Reel I brought a Spinfisher V without the bail. Thought I made a mistake when I first used it. I had a problem casting and than getting the line on the wheel. But after a while I finely got use to it. What I like the best of a bailess is when I'm snapper fishing .I let the bait on the bottom than reel up a couple of feet take the line off the wheel and let it drop down again . Than put it back on the wheel reel up a little and repeat. It's become a quick and quit-less procedure. Holding the line while it's going down sometimes I would get a hit .Set the hook and put it on the wheel. I'm getting where I don't even have to look. I also use it trolling with 20lb. test line for KIng Mackerel. Had no problem with the drag , and they do take the line out. Over all I'm glad I got the bailess Spinfisher V. It open a new why to fish for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leaves the competition breathing dust This is one of the best reals I ever had I live in new York and I do a lot of fishing in Long Island I actually fish for stripers bluefish and any other fish that I can find that live in these waters the real is heavy duty and there's none like it some other manufacturers state that their reels are lighter much stronger but thats all a lie I have bought many other reels from other brands and nothing has stud more of a beating then these penn reels.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best reel for those that struggle with conventiona I purchased this for my wife who has difficulties casting conventional reel, we have both used this reel and and feel it is well suited for our tuna season and larger rock fish. We have both landed Yellow tail, Albacore, Ling cod and rock fish. The yellow tail and Albacore were in the 35 to 50 lb class and with braid and a mono top shot landing these fish was done with ease. Any angler would be wise to add the spinfisher V to their fishing arsenal.
