Rated 5 out of 5 by Kerstet2 from Great for Trolling and Sharking I bought two 30VSW reels to troll for tuna and shark fish in NJ. They are paired with Penn Bluewater Carnage rods and are great. The majority of my sharking was tag and release and the reels brought many browns, spinners, hammerheads and makos to the boat quickly. I did use it to harvest 1 mako this year. I enjoyed the product so much I purchased 2 of the 50VSWs for this season.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Miz T from Light weight , perfect for my wife to handle Purchased as a combo with fully rollered stand up rod , mainly for my wife to use . Weight is an issue , the problems is solved , also I'm impressed with the reinforced body , drag is great . So far she has landed tuna, and mahi Mahi nothing large yet , better she hones her skills , while waiting for that fish of a life time

Rated 5 out of 5 by Pinegolf77 from Just as good as internationals I had 2 50s last year and they both performed as well as their equivalent internationals. Durable with smooth drags and for half the price. Would get anything else unless I was a charter boat. Perfect for the recreational boat that can get offshore a handful of times a year. Bought 2 more 30s this season and handled big eyes well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Robert W from perfect for deep drops Exchanged out an old Squall for this model. Other guys at the rail were half dead pulling up haddock and cod from the deep.I went all day with my Squall hooked up to my back vest. The graphite reel is light fast and powerful. In combo with a Mariner II rod, it does the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Deejay59 from Stopped everything thrown at them About four years ago, the offshore bug bit me and I've been running offshore every chance I get since then. But, I was having to rely on friends to take me with them. Of course I would help out $ and help clean up etc. But I wanted my own boat. In the meantime I was buying squall 30vsw's(4) and 50vsw(2). Well , finally saved up enough, purchased my own boat and haven't looked back since. These Squalls are 'The Right Stuff'. I fish out of Port Canaveral and Ponce Inlet and retired from NASA a few years ago. There is zero torqueing under heavy drag, none, line lay is the same every time, the drag stays strong under heavy demand and does not weaken when heated up by a big fish pulling drag. I fish alot. I have 2 generations of numbers from my family who used to fish commercial offshore, trolling and bottom. I use fathams on the bottom and slammer III's casting at weed mats, birds dive bombing, etc. keep these reels mainly, rinse them afrer every use and there is no reason why they won't last a lifetime. Fish on!
