PENN® International® Baitcast is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 38.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock Solid & Reliable I run a home and away charter fishing service and a quartet of Penn 975s have made up the bulk of my bait casting gear for the past two decades. They are rock solid and reliable, easy to clean and require minimal maintenance. I have landed some "extreme" fish with these reels, including 200-lb blue sharks, 80-lb makos, 75-lb plus yellowfins and 50-lb bluefins...and these reels still work! This quartet of 975s has also taken over 2,500 dorado and effortlessly cast my go-to 1.5-oz SPRO bucktails as far as the wind, seas and my anglers' skill sets will allow. One of my charters landed a nice 33-lb bull mahi on my 975 last fall fishing off of Long Island and that was a total hoot! 975s rule!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Reel and made in the USA I use this reel for musky fishing on my 9' rod that I use for everything (bucktails, glidebaits, crankbaits, etc). It has definite CRANKING POWER for burning double 10's as it is a lower gear ratio and having the power handle. However, I did modify mine by buying a regular 965 handle (since the 975 doesn't have one) and machined the center hole to fit the larger crankshaft so I could be a bit quicker about keeping up with slack line when working my glide baits really high and fast. Even after I have done this I can still really crack the double 10's yet with no strain in my hand compared to my other reels. Hands down great reel and love the fact that its made in the USA. However, would admit it would be awesome if Penn did offer one with a 5.4:1 or 6.0:1 gear ratio (or their Torque conventional reel with a level-wind system), and the mechanical brake could be a little less touchy. But still this is an amazing reel and I will be obtaining a second one soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Penn International 975 I bought one of these reels back in 2000 and got a new one for the holidays in 2015. It has gotten use almost everywhere I have fished. From inshore Southern California Calico bass and yellowtail fishing and offshore fishing for bluefin and yellowfin up to 50lbs the drags and construction have always stayed smooth and solid. Saw service in Alaska as well for rockfish and salmon fishing. This reel is timeless and Penn continues to carry replacement parts so that this reel could go on forever. Made in the good old USA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Penn 965 I've owned my 965 for at least 15 years. I bought it because I had been fishing for King Salmon in Alaska for several years and my other reels (not Penn) were getting toasted by the freight train power of 20-30 pound Kings. My 965 has held up year after year with only occasional service and drag replacement. A durable, rugged machine that casts great and takes plenty of abuse. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made in the USA ! I purchased this 975 over ten years ago, and it's just now needed attention with the idler gear, worm shaft, pawl and probably a thrust washer. Last a lot longer than any other brand I have tried like the Abu .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Acceptional performance I used my Penn International baitcast reel on an offshore trip this last summer yo-yo'ing down to 150-200 ft for some finicky bluefin tuna and was able to fool a few into biting. Some great action occurred and the reel did its job of bringing them in along with my Penn Powerstick rod. My trip would have been a total bust without this set-up. Thank you Penn for your great products! Sincerely, Tyson Curtis

Rated 4 out of 5 by from stands up to heavy usage I've owned the 975 for a number of years. This reel does more than double duty. Its been used to catch stripers to 40lbs, blackfish to10lbs ,bluefish to 15lbs,fluke to 10lbs also sea bass.It has performed flawlessly ,this with a once a year cleaning and a few times a year lubrication .Rinsed with soap and water after each use and still looks and works good as new.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have two and they are the smoothest bait casters I have been using penn bait casters since they first started making them. the 965 and 975 are the finest bait casting reels I have ever used.
