Nice light strong rod
. I purchased the 9ft, medium light action rod and I also purchased a Penn Clash 4000 spinning reel. The combo was very light and perfectly matched. I hooked into a few nice drum but was unable to land them. But as far as casting lures, this rod will launch 3/8 ounce lures. I can't tell you about catching fish with this rod but you can cast it all day. I'm heading to padre island again this weekend to do it again. This is my first surf rod of its type so I'm sure there is a learning curve.

defect and Penn wont answer back
bought my carnage from bass pro 3 weeks ago and after the 1st use I found 2 defects in the pole. #1 the ring to keep reel on constantly loosens after only a few casts and have to tighten it. #2 the male and female parts where the pole is combined is not a good fit. It has fell off a dozen times even after making sure its set in good it will fly off randomly on a cast. A few days ago the top again flew off and got stuck on rocks or a branch underwater. so now I have only bottom half of the $220 rod after taxes and its only been 3 weeks. They will not respond, Hopefully they will after this. On a good note, besides the 2 flaws it is an amazing pole. The feel is awesome and its so light. but that doesnt mean anything if your reel might fall off or you lose the top.

Good power
I fished off of fort Myers peir with this. I pulled a 41 inch red fish out of the pillars like it was nothing. I have the 8 foot rod and it casts like Butter. Definitely a surf rod I recommend

Very sensitive
Great rod! 11ft spinning. Very sensitive rod and it can launch 6oz with ease. Used it for surfperch fishing in Oregon and felt every bite. Wish the it had a little more lighter flex to the pole and less thickness and a eye on the bottom half. Other than that I think its amazing! Used it only twice so far.

Great Rod!
I've got quite a few rods of different price points. I got the 11' rod and originally thought that the tip was a little heavy. On rough days when I'm wanting to launch a 4-6 oz weight, this rod does it with ease. I'm very happy with the weight and cast ability.

Great casting heaver; excellent landing power
Landed this 4' blacktip recently on the east coast of Florida with my 12' Carnage II and Spinfisher V 7500LC. The pair cast extremely well using 6 oz weight and a chunk of cut bait on a pulley rig. Loads up pretty good with 6+bait, but I'm thinking of getting 8 oz, cuz I feel the rod has more to give. After hookup, the rod really shows its worth. With a 12' rod the fish has a lot of leverage on you, but the Carnage held it's own. It kept pressure on the fish when it was running and it's backbone allowed me to pull him in with confidence. My only concern was if my line and knots would hold; not the rod or reel.
I love the feel of the spiral wound jimping of the shrink wrap handles. On the beach, your hands get wet, slimy from bait and caked with sand at times. The indentations on the handles keep you in control during the cast and prevents your hands from getting fatigued during the fight.
Highly recommend this rod for surf fishing shark, tarpon or big reds.

The best rod ever
Got as a gift about a year ago. It's perfectly balanced, cast with ease for any weight from 1 oz to 4 oz. Love it.
