Rated 5 out of 5 by PezLoco from Fantastic rod for a great price! I needed some general purpose rods for fresh water catfish, bass, etc. fishing and I couldn't be happier! I use them year around for all applications paired with my 109s, and I just ordered another for my 309.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Deployed Soldier from While Deployed with the Military... I purchased a PENN Mariner with a reel while deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with the Army. It lasted less than 4 months and it was properly cared for. Being it was the best option here on base (we only had 2) this one and an ugly stick, I reached out to PENN in hopes of getting it replaced. They actually came back to me and asked for $20, the rod is listed for $27. But to give them the benefit of doubt I asked if they wanted to reconsider the $20 fee and they responded with please pay $10. I am surprised by the lack of customer service concerning this matter, especially over just $10. I knew it was not a great rod when I purchased it form the Base Exchange, however guys you should at least stand by your product, especially when you are selling it to Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ramz from Great Rod I bought this about a month ago and haven't had the chance to use it until last week. I've only used it once, hence the four star rating. I caught a 7-8ft bull shark on the rod without too much trouble. I couldn't land the shark as the hook pulled. I don't even think the rod is rated for sharks so I was pretty happy. Nonetheless, great sturdy rod. Hopefully it keep up the good work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lines Out from Know what you are getting People that but these rods for $40 should understand what they are buying. I see a lot of Penn bashing. These are replacement rods. You can find other rods for $300 if you don’t want the eyelets to fall out and the guides to rust after a few usues. I have a couple of these entry level rods. I have paid anywhere form $10-$24 to have eyelets repaired annually. A $300 rod is a lot of eyelet repairing. I’ve had good luck with these rods....for the money. But there again I know what I’m getting.

Rated 3 out of 5 by mk99 from Decent rod....very poor guides. Just getting started with saltwater fishing and bought 4 of these for trolling the Florida Keys. The rod is decent, have been able to land several dolphin and a good sized wahoo no problem. However, after fishing these rods for a total of 2 weeks over the last 2 years, the guides are already rusting, despite washing them off with freshwater after every use. Penn...why not equip these rods with a stainless steel guide. I'd be more than willing to spend another 10-20 bucks.
