Rated 5 out of 5 by Paul surfcaster from Nice light strong rod . I purchased the 9ft, medium light action rod and I also purchased a Penn Clash 4000 spinning reel. The combo was very light and perfectly matched. I hooked into a few nice drum but was unable to land them. But as far as casting lures, this rod will launch 3/8 ounce lures. I can't tell you about catching fish with this rod but you can cast it all day. I'm heading to padre island again this weekend to do it again. This is my first surf rod of its type so I'm sure there is a learning curve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Redbird1911 from I bought two penn carnage rods a while back that I pared with the fierce 6000 reels. But my son always use them when we go fishing . So, I recently purchased two more carnage 10ft surf rods that I will be using with the battle 2 reels. I am very happy with my penn rods and reels. I now have a total of 27 rods in my collection. I am a woman that loves to fish and have landed lots of black drum and bull reds. I only fish with penn.

Rated 1 out of 5 by klaw from defect and Penn wont answer back bought my carnage from bass pro 3 weeks ago and after the 1st use I found 2 defects in the pole. #1 the ring to keep reel on constantly loosens after only a few casts and have to tighten it. #2 the male and female parts where the pole is combined is not a good fit. It has fell off a dozen times even after making sure its set in good it will fly off randomly on a cast. A few days ago the top again flew off and got stuck on rocks or a branch underwater. so now I have only bottom half of the $220 rod after taxes and its only been 3 weeks. They will not respond, Hopefully they will after this. On a good note, besides the 2 flaws it is an amazing pole. The feel is awesome and its so light. but that doesnt mean anything if your reel might fall off or you lose the top.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mattwillyy from Good power I fished off of fort Myers peir with this. I pulled a 41 inch red fish out of the pillars like it was nothing. I have the 8 foot rod and it casts like Butter. Definitely a surf rod I recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by David Striper Hunter LI from Light and strong 8fter I bought the Carnage 8fter a few months ago. Fishing out of Jones Beach NY from pier and jetty using soft plastics on 3/4-4 ounce jigheads. This rod could really cast what it is rated for and more. Even though it’s rated up to 3 ounces I could cast bass assassins on 4 ounce jig heads and have no problem. And I’m not lobbing it either. I’m whipping it hard. Killed the fish this season... stripers, bluefish... this rod handled a lot of fish without flinching. Even slinging striper keepers over the rail and onto the pier deck without issues. This rod is strong and light. Don’t have to fish it in between the legs but light enough to fish it like a 7fter using wrist and forearm for support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Mikel01 from Holding up extremely well over a year. I surf fish 3-4 times a week all year long. My 12 foot rod paired with a spinfisher v 7500lc and 50lb powerpro has held up extremely well. I can routinely reach the second sand bar. It has good bite detection for pompanos and enough back bone to land a 6’ blacktip. By far my go to rod/reel setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dutchboy from Great casting heaver; excellent landing power Landed this 4' blacktip recently on the east coast of Florida with my 12' Carnage II and Spinfisher V 7500LC. The pair cast extremely well using 6 oz weight and a chunk of cut bait on a pulley rig. Loads up pretty good with 6+bait, but I'm thinking of getting 8 oz, cuz I feel the rod has more to give. After hookup, the rod really shows its worth. With a 12' rod the fish has a lot of leverage on you, but the Carnage held it's own. It kept pressure on the fish when it was running and it's backbone allowed me to pull him in with confidence. My only concern was if my line and knots would hold; not the rod or reel. I love the feel of the spiral wound jimping of the shrink wrap handles. On the beach, your hands get wet, slimy from bait and caked with sand at times. The indentations on the handles keep you in control during the cast and prevents your hands from getting fatigued during the fight. Highly recommend this rod for surf fishing shark, tarpon or big reds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cam17 from Light & strong with good action I use the 10ft 20-50 line rated version for shore casting in Hawaii. This rod has taken a beating on lava rocks and it holds up great. Also light enough to be able to cast for long periods of time. Would highly recommend, especially paired with a size 5000 - 7000 penn reel!
