Rated 4 out of 5 by Redman1980 from Typical Penn lately... I bought the 4000 model in Corpus Christi along with a 7' Squadron, that was 50% off for some crazy reason, a couple weeks ago. I am completely satisfied with this reel. It is smooth, casts very well, and is light and durable. So why 4 stars? It really hasn't been tested hard, some light weights hitting my TTF paddle tails and D.O.As in the surf, nothing to write home about, handled very easily. Penn is back as a serious and respectable reel maker again. The gen 3 spinfishers left me soured but still own a couple 5500s. Anyway, cheap in price only; pick one or two up. I'm getting 1 or 2 more 4000s as bass rigs in the near future. Penn proud again!

Rated 5 out of 5 by saben from cheep combo I got this as a cheep bait rod, and fun small fishing rod. So far I have hooked up with several dolphins and a lot bigger than this should be able to handle. With dolphins and big fish tearing through the drag and putting the pole through its fair share of abuse it has held up with no need for service. I wonder how long it will last!!!. All in all I use this as a primary rod and reel every day now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by FisherTx from Great Reel, just take care of it. My wife purchased this reel for me in Feb of 2014 and it has worked great! But like anything else you have to make sure you keep them up with oil and Penn grease. It started sticking until I greased it. But that's not the companies fault, that's poor maintenance on my part... this real is amazing for this price. I've caught everything from 15-25 inch speckled trout to 35 inch redfish up to 30 lbs.. no complaints about this reel. I recommend it for all saltwater anglers on a budget.

Rated 5 out of 5 by sandy jenkins from Great for Urban Sharks! Used the 8000 for land based shark fishing in downtown Charleston, SC and it worked like a charm. Drag held up to runs over 200 yds from blacktips and sandbar sharks pushing 6 ft. Never had any problems even though it got pretty salty and beat up on concrete. Have since recommended it to any of my shark fishing partners.

Rated 5 out of 5 by robc from Traditional Penn quality at a Great Price I live in Honolulu and regularly surf cast, or whip as we call it. I picked up two Pursuit 2 3000's for me and my son. We chase down trevally (papio) , bone fish (oio), goat fish (moana kali), and whatever else is biting. I own some vintage Penn SS spinners that I have had for decades, and wanted some fresh gear. I am completely sold on the Pursuits, they are an awesome bang for the buck, and highly recommended for any inshore fishing. Tough, durable, well made, and affordable too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Capt Ryan from Good quality for the price I use these reels on my charter boat and they are abused from the time they come out of the box. They hold up well and for the price if they get too beat up we just replace them. If they last me two years they will last weekend recreational fisherman two lifetimes. Smooth drag and smooth cranking power, would definitely recommend to friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by khandyone from fantastic drag system Wife and I have fished with Penn Reels of some time now. Used to fish Pike and Muskee's when up north around Ohio, and Salmon in up State New York. Now coastline fishing SW Florida. And catching Snook Red Fish, trout, cobia , and Sharks. The Penn Pursuit 6000 on a 7' Ugly Stick really out did it self. When I hooked up with this sawfish. Estimated body length of 9ft. And 20 min to bring in. We kind of use a hand to spool, over the drag. But, when it comes to let a big fish run. It's nice to know a good drag can be a big help. Most of my rods are And I do recommend Penn Reels often. As far as rods go, I just ordered 2 Fierce 8000 on 7ft rods. Maybe my Dad talking; But find a good quality real that you find affordable and hopefully strong enough to handle what your looking for. And a rod that can handle it. It's more fun that way.
