Product Reviews

PENN Fathom Level Wind is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 59.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Completely reliable, durable This is going to last me for years. Great reel for bass fishing. Performs better than it looks. This is one solid product. After several uses the line never scratched the spool nor did it dirty it's aperence. Both as a show piece and a functional tool, the reel lives up to Penn's reputation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I ran these Penn Fathom Reels on my charter boat for over 200 charters last year and they are the best reels I have ever used. Never had 1 reel out of 24 break. Great drags, clickers and retrieve rates. They tackled the big King Salmon and Brown trout with no problem. They also have great balance so the rod doesn't twist in your hand when fighting big fish. I am going to replace all the reels on my other boats with Penn Fathom's

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome reel Penn did it right with this reel. I have caught everything from 1lb rock fish to a 99lb bluefin tuna on this reel. I have the Fathom 20 level wind set up on the Penn Bluewater carnage 6'6" 30-80 lb rod and I love it.I am able to power in tuna and Dorado off of San Diego and northern baja. Then go in shore and fish the kelp beds for bass, rock fish, ling cod, halibut. My only complaint is that I want one with a higher gear ratio, I would really like to see the Fathom level wind in a 6:1 or higher ratio for throwing Irons and other faster retrieve for casting the Fathom level wind casts awesome. It casts just as good as a non level wind, smoothe long casts. The drag system is no joke. For a smaller reel such as the Fathom 20 level wind I was amazed at how powerful and extremely smooth the drag is. I have caught small fish and big fish with it and it handles every fish the same, with ease..I highly recommend the Penn Fathom line to anyone looking for a solid all around reel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Made In China I bought this reel because I always buy Penn. I have had to return 4 new reels this year for various reasons. I pulled this reel out of the box and immediately notice the drag mechanism isn't right in the way it should feel. Had a lot of play in it. Then I notice the sticker on it, "Made in China". It's obvious to me Penn is fabricating cheap parts and paying for cheap assembly overseas. Their quality has suffered for it. There are new makers on the market that may be a slight bit more expensive but are much higher in quality which makes for more time on the water and not at the post office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best for the Money I have 4 of these reels on my offshore boat. I use one for surface iron action, one for deep water iron and the other two for live bait. The drags are extremely strong and free spool is amazing. I use 50-80lbs braid depending on the reel and usage. The reels are powerful and we shut down the fish, get them to the boat.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Charter Boat Review on Penn Reels I have bought 2 FTH20LW and 2 FTH25LW so far the reels are holding up to salmon fishing on Lake Michigan very well and the drags system on the reels are excellent. The only thing I do not like is on the FTH25LW is the reel clamp it is generic not a Penn part and dose not fit right on my fishing rods they come loose . Penn needs to use the rod clamps that come with the FTH20LW.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything is unbelievable If you looking for a reel that can handle anything this is the real for you. The line capacity let's you handle the toughest fish the ocean will throw at you. I have the penn internationals on our boat and as well fathoms. Although the Intenational V's are good the fathoms are really just as good. I have caught sailfish up to 50kg's , dorado up to 60kg , tuna of 100kg , 800pound shark on this real. This real is one of the smoothest , strongest, low maintenance reel I have ever had and it's one that with out a shadow of a doubt I would get.
